Hey again! I think a good visual improvement for this game would be if the cart and rocket indicators in the 2D levels were bigger. As of last version (#22), those circle indicators in these levels are too small, almost invisible.
idea: after the boss fight with the goose, the goose kidnaps the capybara and you have to do a section without the capybara but then there is a cutscene where pablo the race cat becomes the new capy and then they rescue capy on a new island
Not too far off from one of my original plans for it, except the Pablo part. I'm planning on using him for something else though. What happens depends on how much time I have to work on this stuff :P
I think I found a little bug (version #20) on the shopping cart level (to which you enter via the lake where capys are resting with oranges on their head): when you fall off the tracks, you can't restart the capy nor the stage (option is disabled on Pause menu) and keep falling to the void infinitely.
Besides that, I'm enjoying this game so so much!!! Keep up with the work, I think this game has a lot of potential :D

Found the issue, it only happens after the rocket has been unlocked which I didn't test. Thank you so much for the help! Should be an update out soon-ish that fixes it :)
and also, how do i get on top of the ice mountain? all of the tutorials i watch show the ice mountain with a stair formation, but in my game you climb stairs different from the ones I've seen online, then you blow up a platform with a shopping cart to reach a area with a sign with a rocket on it pointing up. there is nowhere to go after that.
for the boss fight, why does my big bird with the red button on the back never dies? Is it designed to be in that way or do I have to shoot the cart to a specific part of the big bird?
After repeated enter through the portal to the 2D map, sometimes I got a problem with camera being shifted away from the character.
Anyway, I managed to get 28 dogs and I think the last one is in the icy mountain stage behind the gate with a keyhole, but I cant find the key anywhere. Im down to saving the last dog, but Im not sure if it is not a fake gate and the last dog is somewhere else
That's great, thanks for playing! There is an extra dog in the mountain stage behind the gate you found. The secret area with the key is hidden somewhere between the first and second jump in that level :)
I've seen some camera bugs in the 2D map before, but at the moment I am not sure what causes it. I'm going to look more into that once the next update is out. Thanks for notifying me!
And one more thing: when fighting the Boss, when I fall into the water, it kicks me out of the Island (most of the times) and I respawn on the main Island apart from the Boss. I don't think it's intended.
You're right, that is a bug in the boss fight. I actually just found that a couple of days ago, and I believe I have fixed it. But the update with the bug fix is not out yet :/
For some reason the secret portal in the 2D stage does not take me to the floating island. Both portals take me to the top of the waterfall mountain. Besides that, I have been loving this game and can't wait to unlock the hat with 29 dogs! :)
I've had a bit more time to play this... fiendishly challenging but absolutely brilliant!
A couple of bugs to report in the Linux version via the itch app:
1) There are no trees rendering on the top of the waterfall hill unlike in the speedrun. Did these get removed?
2) On the volcano island the trees are not clipping (cat can go straight through)
The Linux zip is somewhat larger than the Windows and Mac zip, so it is just an older version?
Also some suggestions:
a) Pressing jump again while in the air on the capybara should cause the cat to jump off (dismount mid-air). That just feels natural. Once the cat is off the capybara and in the air, pressing jump again does nothing.
b) More music variants of the Stock Market music theme on the main map (if you've ever played Banjo Kazooie on the N64, the way the same melody morphs between instruments as you move between areas is just magical!)
c) Add the ability to climb into the trolley whenever the cat is on the capybara. Just before the cat climbs in he should give the trolley a little push. There should be no way to make the trolley move forwards once in it, so it'll carry on rolling any distance if on a hill. If in the trolley, you can't throw the trolley obviously and rockets are disabled.
d) When the cat is off the capybara, If the player manually jumps onto the capybara (as opposed to pressing the mount button), this should also cause the cat to mount the capybara again. Feels natural.
Here's what I think about each of your (greatly appreciated) comments:
Bugs:
1. Yes, some of the trees got removed. A few of them were floating above ground and there were a bit too many unnecessary ones.
2. Perhaps I never updated the Linux version after fixing the trees. I know they have colliders in my current version. Also, I am not quite sure why the application sizes are so different, but they have always had that difference. I could try tweaking some settings.
The suggestions:
a) This was actually a features a while ago during testing. It was removed because there were so many instances when I tried to jump without realising that I wasn’t grounded, so I jumped off the capybara unintentionally. Even though it makes sense, it was a bit annoying. The physics are better now so I will try to reimplement this and see how it works.
b) That’s a great idea, I’ll talk to my main composer/my brother about it.
c) I would really like to (try to) add that at some point, so that you could use the cart in other areas. It might take a while to decide since the cart mechanics aren’t finished and lack multiplayer.
d) I’ve never thought about that. Could be cool to test out. I’m not sure if it would work well or not at all :P

Press the start button or enter on the second player's controller and it should add them, from anywhere in the game. It it not tested much yet though, so I would love to know if you find any series issues :)
i have tried multiple times on the obstacle level to unmount the capybara and jump up to the next disappearing platform but the cat doesnt jump high enough
I want to play the game on windows 11, but the game doesn't open: i download the game with the windows link, then I estract the file in the .zip folder, and when I click on Cat&Capy app my whole screen freeze.... Someone can help me? (I don't know very well english, sorry)
I love this game so funny, but in the capybara sauna i can't take the key for the locked door thats the only thing i can point out (havinf in consideration this is an alpha) GREAT JOB!!
Does it crash as soon as it opens? I have not tried it on Sierra. There might be a log file under "~/Library/Logs/MatatoGames/Cat And Capy/Player.log" or "~/Users/{YOUR USER}/Library/Logs/MatatoGames/Cat And Capy/Player.log". I would love to take a look at it if you can send me the file at matatogamestudio@gmail.com :)
Yes, it crashes just with open. I searched in the directories that you say but there's no /MatatoGames and Player.log into logs folder, thanks for the reply
I will have to look into that, I have only tried on my M1 Macbook Air and it works well there. I'll see what I can do, difficult to tell what the problem is though

You just need to connect an extra device (for example controller), and press the start/pause button on it :)

You do not have to redownload, it can be updated from the itch client. But that was just a small update with a lot of bug fixes, so nothing major yet.
where on the itch client? it only gives me the option to download or install. (i already have it installed)
I'm on a Mac now, but I can press "check for updates" if I right-clicking the game :)
i found the problem, i just had the game downloaded as a file, not installed on the itch app

Where did you fall off the stage? I can't reproduce it in any version. I'm guessing it's connected to some other bug I haven't encountered yet :(

Oh damn. I got it. How could I have been so blind, I saw the exit of the secret area, but kept thinking how to get there through the exit 😅.

I updated v3.0 on itch today.
But all my saved data has disappeared.
I collected 27 dogs in three save files.
And this same situation happened with apps downloaded without using itch.
All of my saved data has blowed up.. (Total 6 saved files)
Did that just happen to me?

Just wanted to say how much fun this game is. My Fiance and I just made a full play-through and loved every second!
We experienced no bugs except for an audio bug on the 2D level where explosions were glitching out. Overall didn't matter to us at all haha

I'm on mac OS, the Q button isn't doing anything, so the shoot isn't working. Anyone else have this issue?
It's not clear in the game yet, but the attack has to be unlocked by beating the cart stage. Have you unlocked it and it is still not working?

It is in the main world, but to get there you have to find the secret passage at the end of the 2D pixel level :)

You can hold "control" and press open from there. That should give you the option to open it anyway :)

This game in alpha, for free is still more stable than most modern AAA games on launch that cost $80 or more. Hats off to this dev. Great platformer.
